Dow Jones to spend $230 million to boost journal's pages, color

Dow Jones and Co. announced a $230 million capital spending plan to expand color and page capacity for the Wall Street Journal. It is a three year plan that will allow the newspaper to print larger editions and more four-color pages. The investment program will affect all 17 of the Journal's U.S. plants. The Journal will be able to publish 24 color pages by 2002 compared to 16 in 1998. It will also be able to publish 96 pages on a straight run, up from 80 pages in 1998.

Dow Jones names Lehner as publisher of the Asian journal

Dow Jones & Co. announced that Urban Lehner was appointed as the new publisher of the Asian Wall Street Journal. The appointment goes into effect immediately. Mr. Lehner will be responsible for all of the Asian Wall Street Journal's new and business operations. Mr. Lehner, age 51, is replacing William Adamopoulous. Mr. Adamopolous is leaving the journal in order to pursue other interests.

Ex-Globe columnist Barnicle takes leave to clear name

Mike Barnicle, the former columnist for the Boston Globe, is going on a three-month leave of absence from several television programs where he has contributed opinions. Mr. Barnicle resigned from the Boston Globe in August 1998 for presumably violating journalstic ethics. Mr. Barnicle announced that he requested a leave from MSNBC and WCVB-TV in Boston in order to "clear my name."
