An electronic clearance for senate obstruction
Article Abstract:
The Australian Electoral Commission is using a computerized scrutiny system in the October, 1998 election. The system will be used to determine winning senate candidates by combining below-the-line preferences with above-the-line results in a computerized algorithm. The computer will cut vote-counting time in half to about three weeks. The commission will be providing real-time election results on the internet for the first time.
