Article Abstract:

The Japanese corporate sector stopped borrowing money in a bid to strengthen their balance sheets and became net suppliers of funds in the capital market. The interest rates became low as a result and led to deflation. An economist feels that when responding to lower interest rates, the authorities should be ready to use their fiscal tools to counter deflationary pressure instead of waiting for monetary stimulus to produce results that may never arrive.
