Banana dispute between U.S., EU likely to escalate
Article Abstract:
If the European Union doesn't negotiate an acceptable solution to the banana import issue with the United States and the World Trade Organization, the U.S. threatens to retaliate next month. The U.S. claims the EU is discriminating against Latin American bananas that are marketed by U.S. companies in favor of those from parts of Africa and the Caribbean. It also claims that the effectiveness of the WTO's arbitration powers will be tested.

EC to call for British Air, AMR to limit flights, marking step toward alliance
Article Abstract:
The European Commission (EC) is expected to call on British Airways (BA) and American Airlines to lower the number of flights on some routes across the Atlantic by up to 55%. The EC will also ask both carriers to reduce approximately 260 weekly take-off and landing slots. Acceptance of these demands would be both airlines' initial steps towards gaining approval for their alliance from regulators.
