Small managers face a compliance crunch

Australia's Managed Investments Act of 1998 may make it difficult for boutique funds managers such as Mike Crivelli. The new law requires a larger amount of capital for funds managements companies to get started: at least $100,000 Australian and under $5 million Australian. The additional requirement that one entity supervise all aspects of a new fund cost startup companies more money.

Tidings of great profits spring from the depths of depression
Article Abstract:
Investment managers which specialize in Asian funds are warning investors not to withdraw from Asian markets completely because there will be a recovery. The average return for Asian funds for 4th qtr 1997 was a loss of 21% and the average return for Asian funds for all of 1997 was a loss of 26%. The best performer was the GT Global Asian Growth Fund with an annual return of 8.6%.
