Bell Atlantic sets charges for quarter
Article Abstract:
Bell Atlantic Corp. plans to take giant third-quarter charges, which will probably wipe out its earnings, the result of disappointing showing in Asian markets. The company will take after-tax charges totaling $1.1 billion. Much of the total charges will be noncash according to the company. Frederic V. Salerno, Bell Atlantic's CFO, says that the company is still committed to its Asian investments, which have always been viewed as long-term opportunities.
