Better Times Ahead
Article Abstract:
Working with the United States Chamber Forecast Center's economic experts, and its computerized econometric models, the editors of Nation's Business came up with some predictions about the nation's economy for 1982 and 1983. Using some of President Reagan's economic programs and proposals as variables in the economic picture, economic growth and recovery were predicted based on federal policies being adopted which will help promote the recovery. High interest rates, unemployment and inflation are seen as lessening. The housing and auto industries as well as the multitude of industries related to them are expected to recover and grow. The Gross National Product, productivity, investment and consumer spending are all expected to rise. Some industries for which 1982 signals positive economic changes include, manufacturing, construction, durable and non durable goods, transportation, public utilities, mining, wholesale and retail trade, and personal services. There are many specific factors affecting economic changes in each of these industries which have been analyzed through the econometric forecast system.
