Boards still out on E-com
Article Abstract:
Company directors are not overly enthusiastic about the use of electronic commerce, a recent Boardroom Report survey found. The survey suggested that the two major obstacles to its business acceptance are security and a perceived lack of return on investment. Nearly a third of those surveyed had reservations about the advantages of electronic commerce in the marketplace, though more than 40% said it will provide a sustained advantage. Twenty-three percent of directors do not plan to make electronic commerce investments within a year's time.

Taking the law into the staff's hands
Article Abstract:
The Sydney, Australia law firm Gilbert and Tobin claims that its ComplianceNet intranet application can help companies maintain legal compliance, especially in the area of trade practices. Employees complete training tutorials and then take a final examination over the intranet. The telecommunications and retail industries are fast-changing regulatory environments, and Gilbert and Tobin partner Brent Fisse maintains that if companies do not keep current with compliance and trade law, they could risk liability and loss of reputation.
