Bringing Japanese continuous improvement approaches to U.S. manufacturing: the roles of process orientation and communications
Article Abstract:
The results of a study of seven US manufacturing firms' implementation of Japanese-style continuous improvement (CI) methods indicate an association between process-oriented values and the effectiveness of those methods. The results further indicate a relationship between worker communications and CI effectiveness. It is argued that communications serve as an intermediary between process orientation and CI effectiveness.

An analysis of pedagogical effects of alterntive teaching approaches of goal programming
Article Abstract:
A new approach to goal programming (GP) is called the signal flow graph (SFG) method. A field experiment using the method indicate that SFG is a better pedagogical method in explaining GP solution procedures to management science students than the modified simplex method. The SFG method clarifies the interrelationships of the GP variables while minimizing the dependency on rules or formulas.
