United Kingdom Prime Minister John Major on May 25-29, 1992, made state visits to Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary. Major used the visits to promote free market economic reforms in those countries. The UK is scheduled to assume the rotating presidency of the European Community in Jun 1992.

IRA bomb destroys London bus

The IRA claimed responsibility for a Feb 18, 1996, bus bombing in London, England, which killed one person and injured eight. Authorities believe the bomb may have exploded prematurely. The IRA resumed its bombing campaign in early Feb 1996, after an 18-month cease fire.
