A simple but effective heuristic for workshift assignment
Article Abstract:
Efficient management of manpower resources can be achieved through manpower rostering. This process of scheduling manpower resources to meet operational demands within parameters set by the management, labor union and the government can be enhanced by computerization. The ROMAN generic toolkit for manpower rostering developed at the Information Technology Institute in Singapore was improved through the addition of an effective heuristic for the workshift assignment phase. Evaluation of this heuristic proved that it can hasten the branch and bound search process.
