Careering downwards? Middle managers' experiences in the downsized organization
Article Abstract:
Restructuring creates positive and negative effects on the careers of middle managers. On the positive side, restructuring has lessened several of the traditional middle-management frustrations related to career stagnation. Greater job satisfaction related to increased empowerment over work roles were reported by middle managers. On the negative side, removal of layers and flattening of organizational structures have increased the work and responsibilities of middle managers.
