Case studies: software solutions for international accounting problems
Article Abstract:
Three companies were able to solve their international accounting problems through the use of the latest in software technology. The executive search firm Russell Reynolds Assoc. was able to generate a seamless accounting system for its different international sites with the help of SunSystems financial software from Systems Union. Battery manufacturer GNP Technologies selected the integrated software from J.D. Edwards to generate compatible, reliable information for the global coordination of the production, distribution and marketing of its products. Computer games company Dreamers Guild, on the other hand, has found a way to better cope with its growth through the implementation of the TRAVERSE Accounting Business Software for Windows. Guidelines for companies planning to enter Europe on how to select multinational accounting software are provided.

T&E expense: to outsource or not?
Article Abstract:
An automated expense reimbursement system provides management with reliable information about the travel and entertainment (T&E) expenses incurred by their employees while on the road. Given that T&E is next only to payroll and information systems among the biggest manageable corporate expense, an automated expense reimbursement system can prove to be a very useful tool for companies that want to cut their overall costs. Such a system can be provided by travel agencies, payment system vendors, third-party software developers and service bureaus. Companies can opt to process expense forms internally by acquiring and installing the system or to outsource the function to a service bureau. This agency gathers all data in an off-site database, assesses the reimbursement requests, reimburses the submitter and releases client-specified reports.

Spreadsheets just don't cut it
Article Abstract:
Waterman Broadcasting uses a business management program called Business Maestro for its budgeting and forecasting activities. Developed by Planet Corp, the financial forecast software has proven to be a very useful tool in four areas: revenue budgeting, salary and personnel, film syndication costs, and depreciation and amortization. Revenue budgeting has become easier because each account executive has individual budget files and is now able to decide for themselves. Compensation has also become a smoother process because the software helps identify trends, consumer price index and other variables that are crucial to determining the right pay level. Managing film syndication costs is also made easier because the software helps managers evaluate the right amortization methods for each syndicated show.
