Procter & Gamble has decided on a newer approch to advertising using the Internet, direct mail, and staged events. One method used when advertising a hair-care product was found to be a little risque. "New scientific evidence proves people with great hairstyles are less likely to go home alone" is a slogan P&G has printed on bar coasters and glasses near college campuses.

Cendant panel agreed not to share Ernst working papers with full board
Article Abstract:
Ernst and Young has made a deal with the audit committee of Cendant Corp.'s board of directors to turn over its working papers, with the condition that it be allowed to withhold certain key documents. The committee, which is investigating accounting fraud at Cendant, recently submitted a 260-page report to the Cendant board which was critical of Ernst and Young's accounting practices. The investigation began after Cendant's formation in 1997 following a merger between CUC International and HFS Inc.

Latest soap-opera starlet? CBS casts a bracelet

CBS Television Network will include a silver-dipped pewter bracelet in the plot of its 'Guiding Light' soap opera as part of a merchandising experiment. The network plans to sell various products through carefully orchestrated tie-ins to the plots and characters in its television programs. Proctor & Gamble, the soap opera's producer and owner, will share in any profit generated by the experiment, as will the bracelet's licensee. Leslie Moonves, CBS Television's president and chief executive, says the network plans to tie more products into the network's programs over the next six months to a year.
