Article Abstract:

Succession planning in family businesses may at times stifle its growth. At such time change of ownership can help these businesses survive, and it should be considered as an alternative. This conclusion is based on the example of Irymple Packing, a dried fruit packing company of 105 year old standing. The transition of the company from business-to-business supplier to business-to-consumer retailer is also discussed.
