Chemical/diversified industry
Article Abstract:
Growth trends for the chemical/diversified industry are expected to remain positive due to the Asian economic recovery and continued good US economy. Restructuring, productivity enhancements, and cost-cutting are some of the methods the industry is using to achieve success, but the prospects for fertilizer remain dim. Investors should look to those stocks which have the best prospects for the next three to five years.

Article Abstract:
Higher raw material and energy costs, along with the soft economy, has created a weak economic environment for the chemical/diversified industry. Results for the fertilizer industry have been mixed, but there are some areas of economic strength for this sector. These stocks are not timely for 2001 and investors should seek opportunities elsewhere.
