Chemical (specialty)
Article Abstract:
The specialty chemicals industry is comprised of a wide variety of cyclical and non-cyclical companies which serve every sector of the economy. Industry earnings in the late 1990s have been tempered by weak overseas demand and competitive pressures, but there have been advances abroad recently and speculation about merger activity within the industry, as well. Long-term results for the industry appear to be good, even though profits for the short term will likely be under competitive pressure.

Article Abstract:
The specialty chemicals industry supplies products to every segment of the economy in the US and in the world, as many companies have a limited product range. Balance sheets in the industry have become more leveraged as debt has become the lowest cost method of financing. There are few timely stocks in this industry, but several have potential over the next three to five years.
