There are many economic collisions between China and the United States on the import-export front. The currency crisis faced by China is highlighted as having a fixed exchange, being a buyer of the US debt and entering the investment markets has led to a clash with Washington.

Mark Latham's proposals to change the trade practices regime, aimed at helping small enterprise, are as significant for what they do not say as for what they do. If Labor genuinely puts these things into place, then it would be a big step forward.
