Civil rights: affirmative action to end at UC schools

The UC Board of Regents voted to end consideration of race, sex, religion, color, ethnicity or national origin in its admission of students, its hiring of professors and its contract awarding, on Jul 20, 1995. CA Gov Pete Wilson, also a presidential candidate, praised the decision.

Stay granted in affirmative action case

The Texas state university system lost a suit concerning its affirmative action admissions policy on appeal. The order to end the policy was blocked by the appeals judge pending changes by university officials to the admissions policy.
