Commission recommends more military base closures: thirty large facilities targeted

The Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission has decided to eliminate 30 major military bases and many smaller ones. An estimated 120,000 civilian and military jobs will be cut because of the base closures. The San Francisco, CA, and Charleston, SC, regions will be the most affected.

Military homosexual policy overturned
Article Abstract:
A New York, NY, federal court ruled on Mar 30, 1995, that the Defense Dept's new restrictions on gays in the military constitute violations of free speech and equal-protection. The suit contesting the 'don't ask, don't tell, don't pursue' policy was brought by six gay military personnel.

Military lifts martial law

The military government of Myanmar on Sep 26, 1992, repealed most of the martial-law decrees it had imposed on the country in 1989 in its efforts to discourage a pro-democracy movement. Some observers believed the changes were merely symbolic.
