Compaq the shopkeeper treads on a few toes

Compaq Australia has opened eight pilot retail outlets to attract customers who typically purchase self-brand PCs from small chains and resellers. In response, several retailers who carried the brand have refused to continue, resulting in a revenue loss for Compaq of over Australian $97 million. Compaq is optimistic regarding its overall gain and expects to open as many as 90 additional stores.
