Competition and price slide rattle the north
Article Abstract:
Queensland cane growers are upset about the export quota being shared with New South Wales(NSW). This will cut into the Queensland monopoly on sugar export. There has been a shift to national allocation and this includes Western Australia. The federal government will also be spending $2 million on improving infrastructure in NSW to enable sugar movement. The NSW growers have the option of not using the Queensland Sugar Corporation and this may create competitive export marketing.
