Conectiv plans Super Bowl pitch: it's a utility and so much more

Conectiv wants to be the utility of choice in the Northeast, but it doesn't want to be known as just a utility. In Super Bowl ads featuring Jason Alexander and regional television and print, the Wilmington, Delaware, company will try to convince its audience that it is a provider of vital services. Similar campaigns by other utilities that tried to reach a retail market gave up. Conectiv is spending $5 million on the campaign created by Gillespie Organization.

Northern States Power, New Century agree to merge in $4 billion stock deal

Two mid-sized utilities, Northern States Power Co. and New Century Energies Inc. will merge in a $4 billion stock deal. Reaction to the deal is cool. Approval from regulators can take a very long time. If the two get approval they will have 4.5 million customers in 12 states, ranging from Canada to Mexico.
