Congress overrides cable-TV reregulation veto
Article Abstract:
The Senate overturned Pres George Bush's veto of the cable reregulation bill by a vote of 74 to 25. The House voted to override the veto by a vote of 308 to 114. This was the first time that Congress was able to override a veto by Bush.

FCC sets cable regulation guidelines

The FCC ruled Apr 1, 1993, that cable-television broadcasting companies would be required to follow federally regulated rates for basic cable service. The move could force the industry to reduce rates by as much as $1 billion.

The House passed the cable reregulation bill by a vote of 280 to 128 on Sep 17, 1992, while the Senate passed the bill by a vote of 74 to 25 on Sep 22, 1992. These votes were enough to override a veto by the President.
