Franchising and the choice of self-employment
Article Abstract:
A study to determine the reasons behind people's decision to purchase franchises has been conducted. The results indicated that the importance an individual attaches to personal benefits, including owning a business and independence, is a more accurate indicator of a tendency to acquire a franchise. The study also revealed that, contrary to beliefs that work/family conflicts serve to drive the need for independence, it is actually less stress from these conflicts that makes an individual pursue self-employment.

Crossing mother: entrepreneur-franchisees' attempts to reduce franchisor influence
Article Abstract:
A theoretical framework was developed to shed light on the dynamics of informal interaction between franchisees and franchisors. Distinctions were made between entrepreneurial and non-entrepreneurial activities of franchisees. Analysis shows that entrepreneur-franchisees should not heed every professional advice offered by their franchisors because such advice may not always be in the best interests of franchisees.
