Contextual Model of Leadership Influence in Hospital Units
Article Abstract:
Leadership has been the subject of many research studies. In this study, nurses and their supervisors were surveyed on factors such as formal education, job experience, professional commitment, locus of control, and nursing technology. Leadership activities were examined; among those studies were decision making, information giving, and interpersonal relations. A model of leadership and socio- technical influences on nurse's job performance is given. It was found that only the head nurse's assertiveness behavior had significant effects on staff nurse's job performance (JP). JP was also influenced by administrative climate and objectives.

Deming: a role model for proactivity and metanoia
Article Abstract:
W. Edwards Deming emphasised the importance of being willing to take on the learning of proactivity and metanoia, or 'spiritual conversion,' for successful leaders. Recent research indicates that western companies have generally not taken up significant parts of Deming's teaching. Individual employees are generally not willing to take on new paradigms, and this can create a situation known as Quality Fatigue. Successful leadership is only possible with an awareness of the values and beliefs which form the individual's core paradigms.

Synergy, Influence, and Information in the Adoption of Administrative Innovations
Article Abstract:
One adoption of an innovation leads to adoption of another innovation. This is synergy: the combined effects of the innovations is greater than the sum of their individual effects. For example, the presence of a medical department in a firm will increase the likelihood of both program adoption and social insurance coverage of alcoholism treatment.
