Cooper Industries expected to buy lighting maker

Cooper Industries Inc. is expected to purchase TLG PLC for $535 million. The move is Cooper's most recent attempt to realign its operations. TLG is a British-based lighting products manufacturer. The deal would give Cooper major European operations. For the fiscal year ending on March 31, 1998, TLG posted $648 million in revenues. The company sells its products mainly in Europe.

Hicks, Muse,Tate and Furst's Thomas O. Hicks is planning for the merger of two large radio companies along with Hicks-Muse owned television company and other US and international broadcasting concerns into one giant company. Such a company would be able to offer advertisers access to a national network of television and radio outlets and possibly billboards.
