Saturn expands brand in new campaign
Article Abstract:
Saturn Corp., a unit of General Motors Corp., will be launching an expensive advertising campaign to promote its new brand of sedans and station wagons known as the L-series. The ambitious campaign will consist of television commercials featuring the voice of actor Danny Glover, as well as billboards featuring real cars in such large metropolitan areas as New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Saturn is working with its original advertising agency, Publicis Hal Riney and Partners, in its marketing efforts. A relatively young company which has gained a loyal following for its brand of small cars, Saturn is hoping to widen its appeal and expand its customer base with its new L-series.

Car/truck crash emphasis should be side-impact protection, producers say
Article Abstract:
General Motors Corp.(GM) and other auto makers say that it would be a mistake for federal safety regulators to mandate changes to sports-utility vehicles and pickups that would make them less dangerous to car occupants in crashes. GM says that such mandates would render light trucks less safe. Passengers in cars are most vulnerable when the vehicle is struck in the side. GM director of safety engineering, Robert Lange says that fitting cars with side air bags and refortification of the body would be a better solution.
