Cost of waterside strife put at more than $10m

Robert Bosch Australia was impacted by a waterfront dispute in Feb 1998. A battle between the Maritime Union of Australia and the Patrick stevedoring company resulted in the stranding of a container full of Bosch water heaters on a Melbourne wharf. The company therefore had to fly product to New Zealand, where stocks were running low. Bosch was lucky however, because it consigns most of its imports through a different stevedoring firm.
