Croatia agrees to continued United Nations peace-keeping presence

Croatian Pres Fanjo Tudjman announced on Mar 12, 1995, that he would allow 5,000 UN peacekeeping troops to stay in the country, but their role would be limited to patrolling the borders. There are currently 12,000 UN troops in Croatia, and Tudjman had previously opposed UN troops staying in Croatia.

U.N. extends Croatia mandate
Article Abstract:
The UN Security Council on Feb 19, 1993, decided to extend the presence of its 16,000-member protection force in Croatia. The five-week extension was meant to place pressure on the Serbians and Croatians to observe the cease-fire that was broken Mar 31, 1993.
