Article Abstract:
Melbourne is the largest container port in Australia and most industry personnel agree that its position is unlikely to be challenged in the short term. However, worrying statistics indicate a declining market share of container traffic and a threat from rail infrastructure work on the eastern seaboard opening Sydney and Brisbane as rival ports, but some are sceptical that these ports can compete with Melbourne.
