Developments in demand forecasting from ancient Greeks to present
Article Abstract:
The need to adapt with future trends and overcome uncertainties prompted mathematicians and economists to develop various forecasting methods. These methods, including Winter's averaging technique and Box-Jenkins' potential recurring demand patterns, are based on the notion that through rational thinking man is capable of determining patterns of historical demand. They are partly motivated by the assumption that men, instead of nature, are capable of shaping future trends.
