Many investors have become bored with the stock of McDonalds, the veteran fast-food company. Nevertheless, McDonalds continues to enjoy consistently high earnings. Although aggressive advertising by rival Burger King has cut into McDonalds sales, McDonalds enormous advertising budget continues to be integral to its success. McDonalds experience in selling hamburgers and attracting people to its restaurants has also been a big part of its success. The chain's other major assets include an ability to attract children to its restaurants and to develop popular new menu items.

No Gold Medals

The Treasury Department's new commemorative coins feature designs from the Olympic Games, and part of the money raised by their sale will go toward funding the 1984 Olympics. The Treasury has mounted an ambitious marketing campaign for the coins, stressing patriotism. However, sales have fallen far short of the Treasury's goals. Coin dealers are unimpressed by the coin's investment potential. The coins' high prices may have also discouraged many investors.

Sam Heyman took over the GAF Corporation in December 1983. If liquidated the company is thought to be worth 22-26 dollars a share. The company has two basic businesses. Projected earnings for 1984 are very favorable. Eventually the company will look for another chief executive officer (CEO).
