Dishware company declares bankruptcy

Article Abstract:

Reading China and Glass Inc. of Newark, DE, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Oct. 29, 1998, at Wilmington, DE's US Bankruptcy Court. The company, which specializes in cookwear, glasswear, dishware and other kitchen merchandise, sought court protection to enable it to continue its operations, while trying to improve its financial condition. Reading China earlier posted $56 million in assets and $56 million in liabilities. According to the ruling issued by US Bankruptcy Court Judge Mary F. Walrath, Reading China is now authorized to borrow $35 million in financing to help restructure $29 million debt with GE Capital Corp. and to refill its inventory for the coming Christmas shopping season. Reading China officials did not return calls seeking for comment.

Vote Grotto Pizza? that sounds cheesy

Grotto Pizza is exhorting people to "Vote Grotto Pizza" in a marketing campaign timed with the first day of elections. Over 50 campaign-style slogans were installed by the restaurant chain along US 202 and other sites in northern New Castle County in Delaware. As a finale to the promotional efforts, Grotto workers will be giving discount coupons on voting day. T.J. Healey, marketing consultant for Grotto, said coupons, which were distributed at sites that include St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, could be traded at the chain's Fairfax restaurant.
