Distinguishing features of just-in-time systems in the make-to-order/assemble-to-order environment
Article Abstract:
Many of the studies done on just-in-time systems (JIT) have concentrated on repetitive manufacturing, rather than companies who make and assemble goods to order. One US study focussed on 40 companies in this field, ranging in size from sales of $300,000 to $1.6 billion. The results showed that JIT could work in this environment, particularly as it saves time and alterations to completed work. JIT also reduced the time needed to set work up, leading to larger completed batches. It confirms the view that local suppliers are the best using JIT.

Increasing the effectiveness of student evaluation of instructor data through a factor score comparative report
Article Abstract:
An innovative factor score comparative report provides comparative percentile data on the six factors underlying the 33-item questionnaire in order to aid interpretation of student evaluation of instructor data. To make this evaluation instrument and norming data valid and reliable, developmental services for the improvement of faculty teaching must be provided. Lastly, the services of decision science faculty are needed to establish and validate the factor score comparative norm reports.

Tandem configuration automated guided vehicle systems: a comparative study
Article Abstract:
Automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems are used in materials handling processes. Their lack of human control require that they be guided along routes that would optimize use and ensure that materials are not delayed from reaching delivery points. A study of AGV configurations working through different conditions found that tandem configurations were more efficient than simple configurations in moving materials to different points.
