Does counseling work?

Article Abstract:

The benefits of employee assistance programs (EAP) towards reducing health care costs were studied. A poll showed that 41% of respondents were unaware of any positive effects of the programs, with only 25% saying they actually reduced costs. Such results encouraged the re-evaluation of the assistance programs in some organizations. EAPs were recommended for revision if utilization was less than five percent with a bias towards a particular care type. A further consideration was low employee satisfaction.
