Economics, ethics and integrity in business
Article Abstract:
The concept of integrity in business is defined based on Biblical insights in the Judeo-Christian tradition. Given a narrower meaning by associating it with honesty, integrity is defined as an ethical action that includes speaking the truth and not telling falsehoods. Five basic principles on integrity are acknowledged: integrity in business is a good thing, is an important quality in a leader, is rarely manifested, can have economic costs and can generate direct benefits. Two practical principles by which integrity can be promoted are also discussed: that the best test of honesty is to make the action public, and that the likelihood of dishonesty is minimized when opportunities for dishonesty are avoided. Integrity in business is examined along three dimensions: personal, corporate and macroeconomic or systemic.

A stratified approach to the ranking of economics journals
Article Abstract:
Economics journals have been assigned a rank order by 102 heads of economics departments, and separated by research area and type of academic institution, with the result that similar rankings were given by all those taking part in the survey. Journals could be assigned a maximum of 50 points, and the highest scoring journal was the American Economic Review. However, specialists in fiscal and monetary issues tended to rank the Journal of Political Economy first, though this came second overall. Specialists also sometimes assigned a far higher rank to journals covering their speciality, such as labor economics.
