Effort and accuracy in choice
Article Abstract:
The accuracy and effort of a variety of cognitive strategies can be examined through production models and computer simulation in different environments of choice. More task environments need examining as accuracy and effort are sensitive to such environments when associated with a heuristic, and only generalized results can be drawn from the studies illustrated in this paper. Heuristic strategies can be very accurate while allowing for great savings in effort, depending on the qualities of the task. However, maintaining maximum accuracy and minimum effort precludes employing one single heuristic in all contexts. Context and task effects seem to have great influence on accuracy and effort.

An experimental evaluation of graphical and color-enhanced information presentation
Article Abstract:
The use of graphics and color graphics in information presentations is studied to assess how it influences decision-making. The experiment demonstrates that previous theories as to the benefits of color-enhanced presentations need to be qualified. Reports on field-dependent subjects with color graphics are 73 percent more effective than field-dependent reports without color graphics. It is also shown that color graphics influenced decision-making in general, although perhaps not as much as might have been expected.

The impact of decision models on federal coal leasing
Article Abstract:
The impact of a computer-based decision model used in the Federal Coal Management Program on policy setting, was evaluated by a three year case study that used interviewing and content analysis techniques. The model was found to have significant effects on policy formation as a tool used in political debate, even during the transition between the Carter and Reagan administrations, and its attendant de-emphasis of computer applications.
