Electric utility (east) industry
Article Abstract:
Headcount reductions and the acceleration of depreciation are among methods that owners of noncompetitive nuclear power plants are using to cut costs under increased utility retail competition. An extreme case are the problems faced by the owners of the Millstone 3 plant, which are the most serious since the Three Mile Island plant accident. Stocks in the electric utility industry are untimely in 1997, and are not recommended for investors.

Electric utility (East) industry
Article Abstract:
Analysts do not recommend electric utilities in the Eastern states for investment. Stock prices have dropped within a market anxious about a possible rise in interest rates. Significant appreciation out to 1999-2001 is dubious because many issues are already at their high end of their 52-week earnings. Also, restructuring efforts may further drain resources at several companies.
