Environmental industry
Article Abstract:
Evaluation of the stocks in the environmental industry have been lowered by investors in late 1999 due to the consolidation problems at Waste Management Inc and other factors, such as competitive pressures. Growth has been modest for the landfill and waste hauling segments of the industry, but Safety-Kleen has become more competitive in the hazardous-waste area with three large-scale acquisitions. Investors need to wait for the industry to become more timely, but several of these stocks have good potential for the next three to five years.

Environmental industry
Article Abstract:
The investment appeal of the larger companies in the environmental services industry has been enhanced by the merger activity among the leaders of three industry segments. However, internal growth among landfill operations and waste hauling has been limited to less that 5% in the last serveral years and results at water-treatment companies have been mixed. The most appealing stocks in this industry for the next three to five years are those of the dominant companies.
