Advances in networking and software push firms closer to paperless office
Article Abstract:
New software that offers compatibility between diverse systems is advancing the use of electronic documents and the evolution of the paperless office. Adobe Systems Inc's Acrobat and No Hands Software Inc's Common Ground are examples of such software. System standardization is essential for the use of electronic manuals. Mead Data Corp's FolioViews represents the electronic publishing software that is beginning to proliferate. More companies are buying the devices and software that can electronically scan and store customer correspondence and orders, as well as transmit electronic mail. Electronic documents are easier to search and are immediately available, and they can eliminate costs for storage and paper.

With new planning software, entrepreneurs act like MBAs
Article Abstract:
Several software vendors are promoting new computer applications designed to guide relatively untrained executives through negotiation, employee management, business planning, purchase valuation and other common business procedures. The programs are relatively slow-selling, especially when compared with self-help books, but some users say the software has greatly aided their career development. Beacon Expert Systems Inc's Negotiator Pro, Lord Publishing Co's Ronstadt's Financials and ValueSource's Value Express are educational products that use artificial intelligence technology or spreadsheet models to give lessons in management.
