FTC orders Novartis ads to correct claim
Article Abstract:
The Federal Trade Commission has ordered Novartis Corp. to mount an $8 million advertising campaign to correct the false impression that its Doan's Pills are a more effective over-the-counter analgesic than other products for treating back pain. Novartis plans to appeal the decision in federal court. The FTC is requiring Novartis, a unit of the Swiss pharmaceutical firm Novartis AG, to undo $65 million in television and radio commercials with a new corrective campaign. Doan's led the market for back-pain analgesics last year, with $14.5 million in U.S. sales and a 56.7% share of the niche market.
