'Theron Ware' was author Frederic's sole best-seller, and it remains an engaging read on its own terms, and a fascinating period piece about late 19th century America. It created a scandal for its wicked satire of his hometown 'Octavius' (Utica), NY. Frederic died tragically only two years later.
