Fighting for independents
Article Abstract:
Estimates indicate that up to ninety percent of independent contractors were misclassified by the IRS as employees. Subcontracting is a way for companies to obtain specialized skills and not be bogged down by labor-related problems. Several guidelines are offered to identify the nature of contractors. Find out who manages the means and methods of production, other sources of income and the quantity of their investment in facilities and equipment. Employees provided with in-house supervision and paid by the hour, day or month are assumed by the IRS to be employees.

Long live the business
Article Abstract:
Succession planning in small business should be accomplished as early as possible. A survey revealed that majority of the family business owners do not have a formal succession plan. However, potential successors should be harnessed and trained while they are still young. Since a successful turnover of authority takes 10 to 15 years, parents should make sure that their successor is determined to learn the various business procedures. Like any other new employees, they should also be qualified for the job.
