File recovery techniques
Article Abstract:
The loss of computer files can be attributed to operator error, problems with the program or hardware failure. Fortunately, files lost due to any one of these three reasons can be recovered using the proper technique. Files inadvertently erased or deleted by the user can be successfully retrieved with the use of file recovery programs that often come with utility packages, including Norton Utilities and PC Tools. Lost files due to software problems can be saved with backup programs. One such program is Fastback, a tool for copying files stored in hard disks in floppy disks. Loss of computer files due to the deterioration of the hard disk can be prevented by regularly running the file checking program. An antivirus program should be used if a file is lost due to a virus-caused hard disk crash. Finally, firms specializing in data recovery should be called in if all suggested techniques fail.

Electronic commerce today; financial EDI solutions for tomorrow
Article Abstract:
The emergence of the financial electronic data interchange (FEDI) is the next level of the electronic commerce revolution. Whereas earlier EDI systems are being used exclusively for order fulfillment, FEDI networks enable companies to manage their payables and receivables online. In effect, the FEDI is seen as the replacement of the check and check stub that a vendor usually receives as payment for goods. This way, both the payer and the payee are able to cut back on the time and money they spend on making and receiving payments. The members of a typical FEDI network are the trading partners, the bank of the payer, the bank of the payee and the Federal Reserve Network. Given the increasing popularity of electronic commerce, companies that implement their own FEDI can guarantee their competitive advantage in the electronic business environment.

Electronic file cabinets for the white collar factory
Article Abstract:
Companies can benefit from installing optical document management systems. Large, multiple copies of documents that do not need to be updated often can be stored on CD-ROM. Infrequently used information that must be accessed occasionally can be stored on 5.25-inch or 12-inch WORM disks. Optical storage systems have the ability to retrieve data quickly, can collect data from many sources, and reduce information storage costs. Data cannot be erased from CD-ROM and WORM disks, thereby increasing security. The cost of an optical storage system is outweighed by the savings resulting from reduced data input costs, reduced file maintenance costs, and increased efficiency.
