Financial Analysis of Industry and a Preview of 1984
Article Abstract:
A survey of twenty-three industries was made to determine how they weathered the recession. The industries which have made profits include aerospace, business services, electronics, food, forest products, office equipment, personal goods, petroleum, railroads, rubber, stone, clay and glass, textiles, trucking, and utilities. These profits are recorded from 1983 and the outlook for 1984 is a continuation of growth. The industries which continued to lose money during 1983 are the airlines, miscellaneous manufacturing, heavy construction, industrial machinery, metals and mining, metalworking machinery, steel, and transportation equipment. Revenues and net income are listed for the top companies in each of the twenty-three industries. An outlook for 1984 is presented for each industry.
