First direct parliamentary vote held
Article Abstract:
The first secret ballot for the Cuban national and provincial assemblies since the 1959 revolution took place Feb 24, 1993. The votes elected an unopposed slate of Communist Party loyalist. Pres Fidel Castro, in a speech hailing the vote, suggested it was time for him step down.

Maryland gov. vote challenge dismissed
Article Abstract:
A Maryland court found insufficient evidence to overturn the 1994 gubernatorial election due to voter fraud. Republican candidate Ellen Sauerbrey lost the election by 5,993 votes to Democrat Parris Glendening. She had challenged the legitimacy of 50,000 ballots.
