Japanese companies in the foreign electronics and entertainment industries are expected to have considerable earnings growth due to relationship of the Japanese yen and US dollar in 1997. Low prices for memory-chips are expected to hurt chipmaker profits, but digital versatile disk sales should be strong in their first full holiday shopping season in 1997. These issues are not timely for 1997, and investors must select stocks carefully.
