Former Allied POWs seek apology
Article Abstract:
Seven Allied prisoners of war filed a claim in Tokyo, Japan, to seek a 'formal written apology' from the Japanese government. The seven are also seeking financial compensation for more than 20,000 surviving former POWs in the US, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

No living POWs found in Russia
Article Abstract:
A joint commission of the US and Russia reported that it found no evidence of either US POWs or US missing-in action military personnel living in Russia. The US also is investigating whether any Vietnam War POWs are living in Southeast Asia.

Kissinger denies POWs abandoned in Asia
Article Abstract:
Henry Kissinger stated that US POWs had not been intentionally left behind in Southeast Asia when the US withdrew from Vietnam in 1973. Other aides to former Pres Richard Nixon earlier had claimed that some doubt over POWs existed.
