Four hazards that could wipe out 15% of our small businesses
Article Abstract:
About 10-15% of small and medium-sized business enterprises in Australia are in danger of failing if they have not adequately planned for the year 2000 computer problem, pay-as-you-go tax, electronic commerce, and the requirements of the goods and services tax (GST). The year 2000 issue has received much publicity, and most businesses will survive. Pay-as-you-go tax requires businesses to monitor profits quarterly, which most small businesses do not. Small businesses need to move quickly to embrace electronic commerce. To effectively manage the GST, small enterprises will need to understand the cash implications of various transactions.
